The local council have just given me a £400 exemption on this years council tax because we didn’t live here for three months when we got flooded.
I just wrote one letter and they did the rest.. nice one LB of Sutton.

Nice to see that they are not all ogres. We must remember that most of the spending of your council tax is decreed by Central Government. Let’s hope that they (the Government) give additional grants to the councils to enable them to pay these valid exemptions and that other council tax payers will not pick up the bill.
We can all live in hope.

I can’t say I like paying the council tax and for some people it is truly wrong that they pay it, such as OAPs.
I had trouble in the past with councils before and nearly didn’t bother sending in the details but my wife kept bugging me about it – so I sent off a letter and details, showing we were not living in the flat and indeed the borough for the period. In fact for quite a while we weren’t in the country as things got so bad.
However this is done someone has to pay for it, even if central govt gives them grants which I don’t think are necessary, it still comes out of our pockets.
